Ben lead the Sheppard Robson design team to design a new masterplan for two key areas for Swansea city centre. The scheme incorporates a variety of uses including leisure, retail, residential, offices, culture, hotel, public arts and amenities and multi storey car parks. The key design concept was to create a new pedestrian route through the city, connecting currently disjointed features of the city and creating a new focal point for the wider masterplan. The new route terminates on the coast where a new ‘hydro hub’ was proposed; a public aquarium and marine research centre. This dramatic and organic design would act as a major new attraction and also provide access to a new pier extending out into the sea.
